What equipment do I need to do the home workouts?

Luckily, almost all workouts of Jillian Michaels only require dumbbells. There are only a few special workout DVDs that require a kettlebell or resistance bands but at the beginning you’re fine with dumbbells. If you do not have those ready you can easily replace them with plastic bottles filled with water or sand.

Also we recommend you to buy a high quality fitness mat in the long run to not strain your knees and your spine too much when you are about to do these exercises regularly or on a hard floor. For the start a normal fitness mat is alright or if you are doing your execises on a thick carpet that’s also okay.

How often should I do the workouts?

Every training dvd is specially designed to be completed on a daily basis without having to take longer breaks. Some workout dvds even have well-detailed training plans included. If not you can do those workouts every day with 1 -2 days per week where you can rest (usually on weekends) to recover. Of course you can take longer breaks if you need them but avoid slacking off.

I started with the workouts and can’t do them every day

This is quite normal when you have started doing her workouts or have changed to one of the higher intensity programs. If you are not an advanced fitness person you should be prepared that after the first exercises your muscles will hurt. No need to quit training because of this, after 3-4 days the pain will go away, and the body will get used to the loads. Experience showed that you can easily add 1 – 2 weeks of an adaption phase for your muscles to get used to the new impulses. Especially after your first ever workout you’ll feel the muscle soreness throughout your whole body. Just take your time and start as soon as the pain goes away, you’ll see that the second and third exercise will go much easier!

I’m not losing weight after working out – in fact I’m even gaining weight

Do not be afraid to “build muscle”, with 2-3 kg dumbbells this is impossible in principle. Jillians beginner workouts are designed to lose weight and burn fat, not muscle growth. What we usually experience is a “bulked up” state of the body after training. Of course each training is gonna activate your muscle groups and thus making them grow naturally. Your muscles will start storing water which is a normal phenomon thus increasing this bulked up effect. When your body is getting accustomed to the training this bulkep up effect will decrease.

I’m getting hungry after working out

This might be one of the most common problems why people gain weight despite training so hard. To explain this it’s important to understand where this is coming from. When you train your muscles and cause them to grow your body is naturally increasing its demand for calories.
